Ocular Effect Site Update & HelpFindHer.com

In other news, oculareffect.com updated today.

  • A page for "new visitors" was added, with explicit instructions for reaching the Oculus (repeats walkthrough in blog).

  • A bio for Professor Kane Winthrop was also added. The ARG appears to be well-written, with lots of esoteric real life references, such as to brane theory, ayahuasca, and other bizarre terms (Pandora has started a Glossary of Unusual Terms on the OE.com forums; some of the definitions are quite interesting). Previously, the site's owner identified himself as "Richard (Dick) Wiseman", but references to that name have been removed.

  • At least some of the moderators have been at work in the forum section, adding new subforums, and moving posts around.

This site was also found (thanks, Melissa182):
http://www.helpfindher.com/
Shown is a "Missing Persons" poster for Faith, nailed to a post (significantly, she was last seen with Jeremy Hill). This page links to several other "introductory" pages, such as EWO's blog. Note that her 18th birthday is coming up (a birthday significant to nephilim); may be a turning point in the story.

Last seen: September 7, 2004 in Bethlehem, CT
Born: Sept 7th, 1988
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Height: 5'?"
Weight: 115 lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown
Other marks: Tattoos
Clothing: Last observed wearing maroon and gold school uniform
Faith was last seen at the Bethlehem Conservatory on the evening of her 16th birthday. Her disappearence was sudden and without warning. She is believed to have left the school with fellow student Jeremy Hill. Faith has tattoo markings of unknown origin on her body.

If you have any information concerning Faith's whereabouts or activities, please contact Bethlehem [Cut Off]

Someone needs to get that message board under control!

dirtyearl: Man, you SO said what I was thinking... that's like total chaos since the forum opened up to all the TV watchers, who don't know what an ARG is. :) While I like that it gets people involved, I miss last week, when it was just hardcore players who knew how to search for old info, and didn't constantly post the same stuff over and over.

BTW, Melissa, if you are there, you didn't leave any info... but I was wondering how you found the Faith Arella "Missing" flier?

Concurrence. Freakin' noobs.

I was also wondering where Melissa found that link. PM me on the forum if you get a reply from her.

"OMG DISCOVERY if you click on the link at BC you can log in NE1 NO THE PW??/one"

I saw earlier the bruce had the flier linked on his wiki.

As for that flyer. Faith's 18th birthday will be Sept 7th 2006. 18th birthdays are important.

OK, so I'll risk having someone tell me to go find another hole to jump in, but it didn't take me long to figure out who were the interesting players - so here I am. I'm a hardcore fantasy roleplayer, but I have never participated in an ARG, and to be quite honest, I didn't know what one was until recently. I used to RP online a lot until it became overun by 10yr olds with light sabers and "kill everyone" spells - had to get out of it - too inane. What I can tell you is that I'm a corporate escapee that chose to cash out on the New England real estate market and bought a small farm to raise goats and make cheese - but I digress...
I like this kind of game - like looking for clues and unlocking mysteries. So if you guys don't mind a newbie - make that an ADULT newbie, tagging along for the ride, I'd like very much to learn ARG and get into it.
Otherwise, just tell me to bugger off :)

Sure Anna, welcome on board, and feel free to jump right in. :) It's a little slow right now with no new updates recently, but we're glad you found us, most of us more "hardcore" of the bunch are on the adult end of things, too. :D

Pandora, thanks for helping those of us adult ARG newbies feel welcome. I'm enjoying this so far, though I have to agree, they have been a bit slow with trickling out more info. I had thought briefly about getting some help in hacking the BC login, until it was pointed out that at this time, the login goes nowhere. Ah, well, it was a thought!

This is awesome! Thanks so much for starting this blog. It really helps out to have something (a reference) that is clear and easy to navigate (especially since I am so used to TLEC site).

Thanks again!

Hello Pan et. al. This is Jim from TLE (many boards). I have just read thru all of these posts here (nicely done, BTW) but I didn't see you mention that, on vixtattoos.com, there is a "rachelblake.com"-esque login or password text box under the first tattoo picture... (Mind you, this is the ony site I've looked at so far so I assume you already knew it was there, but just in case...)

I just went and looked at the box and after futzing around with it, it's a search box. I put a few things in there and didn't get anywhere, just kept listing the posts that are already in there. One thing I was curious about, are the four or so pictures of tattoo's supposed to be her new portfolio or is that located somewhere else?
Also, I was reading Faith's blog again last night and had previously missed the comment about the newspaper doing an article on her:
"They kind of look like tribal markings and some people even they think they give you special protection or powers. They even wrote a newspaper article about how weird and mysterious I am. It wasnt exactly accurate but it was good for business. They made it sound like I am a witch or something. Maybe I am."
I did some hunting last night for local newspapers and articles on tattoo's but didn't get anywhere there either. Looked at a lot of tattoo sites in Seattle, interesting, but it didn't get me anywhere. Is that the wrong tact to take?

OK, this is weird. I just went back to the occulus to see if it was showing the same thing and now at the end of it, it automatically goes to Miss Vix Tattoo Parlor... It didn't used to do that, did it?

Well, I just looked at the streaming video ABCfamily has up of the show, and at 20:02 into the show, the website that Aaron was searching is displayed, but the URL is not visible. Unfortunately, the website that Vilma looks up also is displayed without a URL being made visible. So, unless my eyes are bad, it looks like this is a dead-end lead. I've even tried Googling the main text on both sites, with no luck.

Hey jlm! Good to see you lending your skills over here too :)

On the box, I looked at it, appears anna is right... it is just a search box. It would have been cool if it were something else? I actually think that might be new, I don't recall seeing it before. Does anyone else?

anna--In the beginning, it used to go to Miss Vix's myspace account. I think it went to VixTattoos.com the second day (on Tues), and has been directing there since. It appears to be a perfect mirror of MySpace.

Hummm, could this be a gentle nudge in the Vix direction? I wonder if this is where the next clue comes from.

Looks like there is a new webpage at helpfindher.com.

On a side note I was reading an interesting webpage on the antichrist. The whole translation from the bible for nephilim is somewhat in dispute. Depending on the bible translation it could mean giant or fallen. It stated:
"A third prophetic type of Antichrist is seen in Genesis 6, through the example of the
giant Nephilim, who had intercourse with women, bearing many illegitimate
children, thus leaving their first estate against the command of God. Likewise, that
titan, Antichrist, and his seed, would take concubines and harlots to bed, fathering
many illicit children, despite religious vows of purity, chastity and celibacy."
...anyway, I thought that was interesting....

Found some more interesting stuff. If it's posted somewhere else, please forgive me. I don't have enough hours in the day to read through all the hooey on the Ocular site. In any event, you can always tell me to bugger off :)
From godlorica.blogspot

"Nephilim, Angels, and Neanderthals
A few days ago in Godlorica, we discussed the "Bridegroom of Blood" story -- the most mysterious tale in the Bible. The second most enigmatic story deals with the Nephilim in Genesis 6:1-4. In Genesis 6:2 we find that the "sons of God saw that daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose." Scholars speculate that the "sons of god" might have been angels who took wives from the daughters of humans. The offspring of these angel-human marriages, were the Nephilim, the "heros that were of old, warriors of renown." The Nephilim are mentioned only once again in the Hebrew scriptures, and the word also literally translates to "the fallen ones." The Nephilim had superhuman powers. Notice that they should have been destroyed in the great Flood, but we do find them in Canaan during the time of Moses, according to the book of Numbers.
Some have speculated that the strange Biblical reference to Nephilim may represent a deep, past, collective memory of the time when Neanderthals coexisted with Homo sapiens. We know that Neanderthals inhabited Europe and the Middle East during the late Pleistocene Epoch, about 100,000 to 30,000 years ago. The Neanderthals were the first hominids to intentionally bury their dead, and they had larger brain cases than modern humans. Examination of skeletal remains indicates that Neanderthals were a physically powerful and war-scarred race. While controversial, some researchers suggest that the Nephilim might refer to either Neanderthals or strongly muscled but possibly sterile hybrids produced by the mating of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens. Even today, scientists do not fully understand the Neanderthal's evolutionary origin and final fading from the world scene."

One question I had after watching the show again was who are these Powers?
